AS SEEN IN | Jewelry tree DIY

Your favorite jewelry still carves out a miserable existence in the drawer or a small bowl? These times are finally over! In this tutorial we did for bild.de a while ago we explain how you can use some wood and hardware store finds to conjure a decorative and naturalistic storage.

Materials:

  • Branched tree limb
  • Container (vase, bowl, or planter)
  • Building plaster
  • Gravel used for decoration
  • Tap water

Tools:

  • Old bowl for mixing the plaster
  • Stick
  • Tape

PREPARATION

* Get all materials ready

* If needed tape shut the drip-off hole of the chosen container from the inside and remove leaves from tree limb.

1

MIXING BUILDING PLASTER AND POURING IT IN

* Slowly mix the building plaster with water in an old bowl and continuously stir until a homogenous liquid starts to form. The consistency should be viscous.

*The chosen container should be filled with building plaster up to approximately ¾ and directly afterwards the limb should be put in the middle of the plaster.

* Secure the branch for example by leaning it against the wall, so it will stay in the desired position.

2

PRICKING HOLES AND SECURING THE LIMB

* The plaster will get warm and start expanding shortly. To prevent the container from cracking, you should use the stick to start pricking multiple holes in the wet, sandy plaster approximately 2 hours after pouring the plaster in the container.

* Continue securing the branch until the plaster is completely dry. Drying time depends on the size and on the material of the container as well as the consistency of the plaster. The drying time of the plaster used in the pictures was approximately 2 days.

3

DECORATING THE JEWELRY TREE

* Cover the plaster with gravel used for decoration all the way to the container rim. Your jewelry tree is now ready and waiting for your shiny treasures!

4

TIP

Your jewelry tree can be easily customized depending on your favorite colors using spray paint; dull white gives your tree a classy and airy touch.

KK MATERIAL GUIDE | Citrine

A variety of quartz, Citrine is an attractive, durable gemstone with pale yellow to reddish-brown color. It is produced by heat treating Amethyst, which undergoes a color change to the golden yellow or brownish-red color variation depending on the heating temperature (750 – 1700 degrees Fahrenheit). The natural citrine is light yellow to orange-yellow and lacks the ‘reddish tint‘ the Citrine produced by heat treatment has. It can be cut into different shapes and sizes, and with its beauty and color, we use it for pendants in our jewelry designs. This beautiful gem is produced largely in Brazil. Other producer countries are Zaire, Namibia, Spain and Argentina.

CITRIN

SPIRITUAL GUIDE

We know Citrine to be called names like ‘Success stone’- because of its bright energy and color that radiates energies for good luck, great fortune, prosperity and is said to bring about success in all areas of life. It is also known as the ‘Merchant stone‘ because it raises luck when worn or used for business equipment like the cash box because it is said to promote generosity.

Citrine is one of our favorite stones for developing psychic and spiritual awareness because it clears off any negative energies from its environment, dissipating them with its powerful aura. Mentally, it helps to boost confidence and clarity of the mind which promotes creativity and good virtues such as honesty and generosity.

HEALING PROPERTIES

Treat yourself with this fabulous gemstone for problems like nightmares, insomnia, general health problems, organ problems – including the heart, boosting strength and muscles. It can also be used for increasing sexuality, beauty, and removal of toxins.

CLEANING & CARE TIPS

The beauty of Citrine is that it is a self-cleansing stone, but that doesn’t mean its energy can’t benefit from a little polishing. The only thing you should totally avoid is sunlight cleansing. It is very undesirable for citrine, as the heat can affect its color and can also weaken it, making it look pale.

On the other hand, these are healthy methods to cleanse this soothing gemstone:

  1. Selenite cleansing: Placing Citrine on a large piece of selenite for about 15 – 20 minutes
  1. Moonlight cleansing; Placing Citrine in direct moonlight overnight, especially during a full moon,

The moon can also be used to charge the energy of the stone. This makes the moonlight one of the most desirable ways, as it cleanses and charges Citrine at the same time. However, bear in mind that different cycles of the moon carry with it different energies, so choose the cycle that carries energy suitable to your desires.

KK MATERIAL GUIDE | Amethyst

Amethyst is a gemstone that’s used frequently in our jewelry designs. It is a type of quartz that is distinguished by its purple color, which can vary in intensity from a dull, light purple to a deep, dark violet (though in rare cases it can be found in red or blue). It typically takes the shape of a six sided prism and is commonly known as the birthstone for the month of February.

OCCURRENCE

Amethyst is typically mined in Brazil, South Korea, and in certain parts of the United States of America, and although the stone can be found in great abundance, it’s been classified as semi-precious due to its beauty and how easy to mold and manipulate it is – making it perfect for crafting things out of it, namely jewelry. The Amethyst we use for pendants and rings are mined in Brazil – historically a placed noted as having the highest concentrations and best quality of amethyst and quartz.

HISTORY & HEALING PROPERTIES

Amethyst has been used for a number of purposes throughout history, and its elegant utility is one of the reasons we love it. The crystal’s name has its origins in Greece, and its original Greek name translated to “not drunk,” as the stone was originally used to protect the wearer’s mind from many ills, namely drunkenness (the god Dionysus is often depicted holding or wearing amethyst, and the Greeks carved wine goblets out of the stone). However, the Greeks weren’t the only people to recognize this stone’s uses. Amethyst is considered sacred to the Buddha, and Tibetan monks use the stone to make their prayer beads, while over in Europe soldiers wore amulets made of amethyst in battle to keep them level headed and heal their wounds.

 SPIRITUAL GUIDE

Amethyst has always been used to protect the minds and temperaments of its wearer, and is still one of the more popular stones for doing so today. As for a user’s inner life, amethyst is well known as an excellent pendant for helping a wearer attain inner peace, keep an even keel, and attain a strong patience. The stone has been known as a great companion for focus and meditation, as well as a strong protection pendant for travellers. Amethyst is also good for healing the pains of grief and loss, and for helping a person even themselves out overall, helping them keep from submitting to impulses and giving in to negativity. Amethyst is associated with the head, forehead, third eye, mind, and the connection that binds the mind, body, and spirit.

CLEANING & CARE TIPS

We usually offer Amethyst as necklaces, but sometimes we also find some very small stones of excellent quality to use them for our popular One of A Kind jewelry pieces. Treat yourself with this gemstone for its unique healing powers and ability to provide good luck as well as its ability to soothe your mind and offer calmness. To clean the stone, simply run it under cold water for about thirty seconds and pat dry with a soft towel. If you find yourself in possession of a particularly darker hued amethyst stone and wish to keep the stone’s deep violet color, make sure to keep the crystal out of direct sunlight. Amethyst’s standard purple color goes excellently with gold (as the two are complimentary colors) and gold is also used to promote inner stability and healing in many cultures and practices.
